How Do I Know Where to Start?
I get approached by women all the time who are interested in starting their own line.
What the line consists of differs (clothing, hand bags, home fragrance, ect.) but the commonality is that they all have NO IDEA WHERE TO START.
As women, we are exceptionally gifted with the desire to create.
Everyone wants to express themselves through a product line and so most female entrepreneurs think that their first step should be starting their own line.
Here is what you need to know:
PROBLEM: Starting your own product line is expensive.
Unless you own or have access to a manufacturing facility that produces what you want to create, you are looking at a lot of upfront costs.
SOLUTION: Start out as a drop shipper for another line.
Develop a customer base, see what sells, get some experience under your belt and some $$ in your bank account before developing your own line. There is little to no cost to get this ball rolling.
PROBLEM: Who is actually going to buy your line?
Besides friends and family, who is actually going to buy your line? Why would retailers choose to carry your line over the thousands of others out there?
SOLUTION: Start a blog first.
Create value and build an audience who would actually want to buy from you if you had something to sell. This will further benefit you if you have a fan base for your products when you approach retailers about carrying your line.
